LNP™ ELCRIN™ W1000XiQ Compound

What is it?

A general-purpose unreinforced PBT compound containing a minimum of 56% Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) materials. A large volume of waste Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is used as recycled feedstock by the beverage industry. However, not all PET is of sufficient quality to recycle into new bottles. The proprietary iQ technology, a chemical upcycling process developed by Sabic, can help convert leftover PET into new building blocks for Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT).  It allows for processing of various post-consumer recycled PET sources, including ocean-bound and land-sourced PET. It forms the basis for the LNP™ ELCRIN™  W1000XiQ compound.

Technical benefits

This compound has properties and processing profiles similar to unfilled virgin PBT equivalents. PBT rates high in resistance to several major chemical categories: Mineral Acids, Organic acids, Oxidizing agents, Organic solvents, and Petroleum.

 

Look and feel

PBT is noted for its durability and ductility. This compound offers a similar look as a virgin (100% fossil oil derived) unfilled PBT.

 

Environmental benefits

SABIC’s chemical upcycling process converts various post-consumer recycled PET sources – including grades unsuited for use in the beverage industry – to PBT resin. For every 1 kg of this compound produced, 82 PET bottles of 500 ml are recycled instead of incinerated or discarded in the ocean or landfills. This compound has a Social Responsibility Certification across the entire value chain. Compared with virgin PBT, it shows a reduction of 27% in Global Warming Impact and a 41% lower Cumulative Energy Demand. The PCR content is certified by SCS Global.
